April Pack Meeting Information

The April Pack meeting is this Friday 4/26 @ 6:30pm at Manatee Bay Elementary Cafeteria.  This is our Spring Recruitment meeting.  Your scout can get a “recruiter” patch for his uniform by bringing a friend and having him sign up.  Does your son have one or more friends who he would like to enjoy scouting with?  If so, have them come out to the pack meeting and see what Pack 183 is all about.  We will be having new parent orientation during the pack meeting so they can get all the information about Pack 183.
Raffle Tickets for April:

This month we will be giving out raffle tickets for the following:
  • Show up 6:30pm or before – 1 ticket
  • Pass full uniform inspection – 1 ticket
  • Bring at least one item for our Spring service project (see below) – 1 ticket maximum (No additional tickets for additional items brought)
We are going to be holding to these criteria as
Full uniform inspection includes:
  • BSA Class A shirt (Blue for Tigers, Wolves, Bears & tan for Webelos)
  • Blue BSA or equivalent shorts for Tigers, Wolves, and Bears
  • Olive green BSA shorts for Webelos
  • Neckerchief and slide for all scouts
  • Scout hat for all scouts
  • BSA socks (blue with band for Tigers, Wolves, Bears & olive green for Webelos)
I have noticed more and more scouts coming to our pack meetings wearing either Class B shirts or Class A with athletic shorts or just showing up in street clothes.  Every scouting event the boys should be in full Class A uniform unless otherwise instructed.  The scouting uniform signifies achievement and commitment to the scouting program.  We want every scout to wear their uniform and proudly represent Boy Scouts of America and the “183” they wear on their sleeves.
At our last Parent/Leader meeting we asked that every member of the pack committee as well as our den leaders also wear the full BSA leader uniform.  Again, our parents and leaders within Pack 183 are going to set the example of wearing the uniform proudly and it is expected that every scout also wear the uniform proudly.  If there are any issues with why a scout cannot be in Class A uniform please let your den leader or myself know.
Spring Service Project:

Mrs. Romaniw has been kind enough to find a new service project for Pack 183.  We are doing a clothing and goods drive to support the Sawgrass Nature Center.  Please see below for information on the items needed for donation.  Do you have at least one piece of children’s clothing that is no longer of use in your home but could go to this great cause?  If so, bring it (or more) to the pack meeting and we will make sure it gets to the good folks at Thred Up.  Please see the other items needed below if you would like to donate those.  This is a great cause and right in our back yard.

Thred Up, a used children’s clothing web store is supporting the Center with this endeavor and requires that all clothing it ‘be in “like-new” condition without tears, stains, fading, etc.  The clothes should be freshly laundered and have the label showing the size.  ThredUp does not accept infant clothing sized under 12 months, junior or adult clothing, sleepwear, socks, under garments or homemade or altered clothes.’
The Sawgrass Nature Center (SNC) is a not for profit organization whose mission is to care for sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife.  They also educate the public about our environment and its species.  If anyone wishes to donate more than clothing to the Center, they are always in need of
Bird Seeds, unsalted nuts, seeds & peanuts in shell, kitten, premium cat, ferret, pot bellied pig, rabbit and mice food.  For a complete list of items on their wish list, visit  http://sawgrassnaturecenter.org/to-donate/wish-list/.
