Keys Campout 3-2014

Hi everyone,

We had such a fantastic time at Scoutmasters. The kids had a blast on Saturday participating in so many activities. Our pack won three awards! 1st Place for Best Gateway, 1st Place for Best Campsite and 2nd Place for Best Overall Gateway!

Thank you to all the parents that brought their children out to join us. Special thanks to parents Austin, Armando, Emiliya, John, Jody & Warren for helping the kids learn how to build the gateway and being there to oversee them, while keeping parents hands off!! The boys are now award winning pros!

I personally want to thank everyone who jumped in to help out with everything that needed to be done and there was a lot! We couldn’t do it without everybody pitching in.

So, onto our next camp out!! We will be camping in the Keys. This was such a fun Campout last year, we just had to do it again!!

The game plan is to arrive on Friday, meals on your own, and set up camp. Saturday will be filled with activities! In the morning we will be setting up the BB and archery range, alternating dens. While one den is at the range, the remaining dens will be spending time in the water looking for marine life and enjoying time with the other scouts. You are welcome to bring fishing rods to throw in lines when you can!

In the afternoon we have special arraignments to tour the Coast Guard station in Key West. This is a great opportunity for our boys to explore the facilities and have a up close look at what the Coast Guard does for us!

Please sign up as soon as possible! The more, the merrier! Sign up and payments are due by March 4th! Click here for sign up and turn in payment at either your next den meeting, at Cut the Car night on Friday the 21st, the Parent leader meeting on March 4th or mail it directly to Nell Forrester, checks payable to Pack 183! Checks must be received no later than March 4th.

Mail to:

Nell Forrester

If you have any questions, please email Warren Howard or myself at campingchair183@gmail.com I will send out another email closer to the date with full details on menu and schedule. In the meantime, in addition to the usual camping gear, I do HIGHLY, recommend water shoes, as the area we will be exploring has very sharp and slippery rocks! Walmart has a decent select for a good price.

I hope to see a great turn out!

Camp Sawyer Campout Information

To everyone camping with us this weekend,

I hope everyone is looking forward to this camp out as much as I am. I just wanted to send out a few reminders! Sorry it’s so long….Please read in its entirety! There is valuable and necessary information included.

Directions – To Camp Sawyer from Weston. Camp Sawyer is located at mile marker 34.5. It is on the south end of Scout Key. (Left hand side or ocean side) It is approximately a 3 hour drive, not counting pit stops!

Camp opens at 4:30 pm on Friday. You cannot enter Camp Sawyer before that. We are in campsites #2 & #3. Please check in with Jeff or myself upon arrival to know where to set up your tents for the weekend. We have a large group and we will have to be strategic with tent arrangements.

EVERYONE must bring 1-2 gallons of water per person to the camp out for the camp drink coolers.  If a family of 5 comes to the camp-out they should bring 5 to 10 gallons of water.  Please bring it to the back of the trailer when you arrive. It’s going to be warm and we will need plenty of water!

Pack 183 has a no electronics policy for scouts during campouts   We have a lot of older siblings coming to this campout.   While we can’t mandate that siblings not use electronics no scout may use electronics during the campout.

There will be no pack organized water activities.  Anything done around water must be done as a family activity and each scout must have an adult with them when around any water.

On Saturday morning we will be shooting BB guns at the BB gun range.  The camp will provide all materials for the event.  Please do not bring BB guns from home.  If you have shooting safety glasses you may bring those for your own use.

Scouts and leaders need to have both Class B and Class A uniforms for the weekend.  Class A will be used on Sunday morning for Scouts OWN and the Dolphin education program.

Weather Forecast – It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the weather in South Florida!

Duty Roster – The duty roster had to be changed up a bit. Please review for when your den is up for duty! But as always, the more hands, the better!

Meal Menu – Keep in mind extra snacks for your family! We will provide plenty grub at the meals, but if you and/or your little ones tend to get hungry between meals, please pack some snacks.

Camping Essentials  – If you have not camped with us before, this is a great list for you! In addition, please bring water shoes as those coral rocks can be pretty sharp. Also, bring rods and bait if you plan on fishing Saturday afternoon. There will be plenty of relaxing and fishing going on!

Payment –  If you haven’t already paid your camping fees, please mail to Nell Forrester 3962 Pine Wood Lane Weston, FL 33331.

Again, sorry so long, but we will be far from home and want to make sure everything runs smoothly!

If you have questions, please contact Jeff or Amy at any time.
